Developer 17-BIT Announces New VR Survival Adventure Song in the Smoke for PSVR and Oculus

Developer 17-BIT dropped a trailer and the first bit of news for their latest game, Song in the Smoke, for PSVR and Oculus Quest, and Rift. We don’t have a date just yet, but it’s coming this year and it looks pretty damn cool.

I’ve always felt that the game loop of classic survivor games would be a perfect match for current VR setups. We have several PC survival games with VR gameplay tacked on but survival games built from the ground up for VR are rare. It’s why the surprise announcement for Song in the Smoke has us so excited here at Pure Play VR.

Song in the Smoke is part survival and part adventure game where players will travel through a world that is both beautiful and full of prehistoric terrors. If you want to stay alive long enough to uncover the secrets of the Song and the Smoke you’ll need to make tools, weapons, clothing, medicine, and shelter. You’ll need to fend off beasts with your bow, club, or whatever else you can get your hands on, and honestly, it looks great.

With The Legend of Zelda illustrator Katsuya Terada on board, the world is sure to be as beautiful as it is unique. I can’t wait to explore it when it releases for the Oculus Quest, Rift, and PSVR later this year.
